“Live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find eternity in each moment.”~Henry David Thoreau
The other evening my husband and I got to live in the present and watch these baby sea turtles make their way to the waves of the vast ocean. WOW!! Such strength in these little ones. Such determination to survive. Such sweetness with every gentle pull from their flippers over the sand. Some would get turned around by the lights coming from the condos behind us. Worried for these little ones we wanted to help them. We also knew that we were not allowed to touch them. So, We took our flashlight and would reroute them towards the water.
I thought about my life and how many times I have been turned around by “false lights” or confusion, worries, and hurts. Thankful that I can reroute and focus on the path that I am supposed to be on. A path towards eternity, fighting through the sand, a long road ahead of me, or the waves crashing around me. I try to live in the present. I do not always get it right, but when I do I am definitely more peaceful. Looking behind to the past can be painful, looking too far ahead into the future can be scary, but just looking at the moment can be less frightening. What “false lights” are you following? Where do you need to be rerouted?
I hope someday that I take another opportunity to watch these little ones again. It was so beautiful and I hope that I remember this moment and fight like a sea turtle…..gentle but strong and to not get distracted by “false lights”!
